90-day history of drug use
Using a small sample of hair cut at the scalp, hair analysis evaluates the amount of drug metabolites embedded inside the hair shaft. The
standard for the industry is to test 1.5 inches, which provides a 90-day history of the donor’s drug use. Courts nationwide have upheld
hair testing in civil and criminal cases.
Segmented Testing (Test as far back as 12 months)
Typically hair tests look at the last 90 days; however, it is possible to test for substance abuse in the last year. For every 1.5 inches of
hair, a 90 day time span will be covered. To test back the full 12 months, 6 inches of hair would be required. To test the last 9 months, 4.5
inches of hair would be required. The last 6 months would require only 3 inches of hair.
* Each 90 day segment of time is considered a separate test. Testing back a full year would be considered 4 separate tests.
- 5 panel test: cocaine, Opiates, Methamphetamines, Phencyclidine, Marijuana
- 5Panel + Expanded Opiates: Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Phencyclidine, Marijuana, Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Hydromorphone.
Limits of DEtection (L.O.D.) Testing
Using the L.O.D. testing, the lowest levels at which the laboratory can detect the presence of drug metabolites in a sample will be used. For
example, Typically Amphetamines are picked up in the hair strand at 500 pg/mg, but with L.O.D. testing, Amphetamines are detected at 100 pg/mg.
